Trip flow

Detailed itinerary

Two nights gives the river sessions room to move with arrival time and conditions, instead of forcing everything into one rushed day.

Day 1

Arrival, settle in and meet the river

Arrive, settle into camp and get oriented to the river. A first river session can be scheduled if arrival time and conditions allow, followed by meals and an easy evening by the river.

Day 2

Main river day

Breakfast, then the main guided river sessions: kayaking, river trekking and snorkelling arranged around current conditions. Return to camp for meals, riverside time and the evening.

Day 3

Slow morning and departure

Breakfast and a slower final morning at camp before check-out. Departure-day lunch can be requested separately by the previous night.

What you will do

Whitewater Kayaking

River Trekking

Guided movement through suitable river stretches, rocks and riverside terrain around the Dovan confluence.

Cliff Jumping

Part of a river session

Cliff jumping is offered as part of a suitable river session rather than as a separate timed activity.

How to reach Dovan

From NJP / Siliguri / Bagdogra

Travel first to Odlabari. Allow roughly 1.5 hours from Siliguri and around 2 hours from NJP or Bagdogra, depending on traffic. From Odlabari, Dovan can be reached by either the shorter Pubung approach, when river conditions permit, or the all-road route through Nimbong and Bigha. See “From Malbazar / Odlabari to Dovan” for the final-route details. Travnia confirms the suitable approach before departure.

From Malbazar / Odlabari to Dovan

If starting from Malbazar, allow roughly 40 minutes to Odlabari. Shorter route: Odlabari → Patharjhora Tea Garden → Pubung → Dangkyong / Dovan. Normally around 2 hours from Odlabari. The final roughly 2.5 km is off-road and includes a river crossing near Pubung, so this route is used only when water level and local conditions allow. All-road route: Odlabari → Bagrakot → NH717A → Nimbong → Pemling → Bigha → Dovan. Normally around 3–3.5 hours from Odlabari. The final Bigha–Dovan stretch is roughly 7 km of rough road.

From Kalimpong

Travel via Kalimpong → Relli → Charkhol → Nimbong Fatak → Pemling → Bigha → Dovan. Allow roughly 3–3.5 hours depending on road and local conditions. The final Bigha–Dovan stretch is rough, so travel time can vary. Travnia can confirm the current approach before departure.

Terms and booking conditions

A 50% advance confirms an overnight booking. The remaining balance is due before check-out. Date-change requests are handled by the team and depend on availability. No-show bookings are non-refundable. If river conditions affect an included activity, we first try to move it to another suitable time during the stay. If that is not possible, the booking is recalculated based on the stay and activities actually provided and the applicable difference is refunded, or the affected activity can be rescheduled within 12 months. Activity participation depends on current conditions and guide approval. Please share any relevant medical or physical concern before joining a river activity.
